When you reach the top of Clingmans Dome, you’ll be up over 6,600 feet high – the highest point in Tennessee. The view from up there is something else. On clear days, you can see for miles in every direction – maybe 100 miles or more. Even on regular days, the views of the park are stunning. It’s worth the walk-up.

And here’s a tip – try to get there around sunset. The sky turns all sorts of unique colors, and it’s like nature’s own light show. Plus, that’s prime time to spot some wildlife, like deer, bears, and coyotes. 

And then, when it gets dark, the stars come out, and it’s like you are entering a different world. The stars at Clingmans Dome are so bright and clear. Many people bring binoculars or a telescope to get a good close look. It’s like your own outdoor planetarium but a gazillion times cooler because it’s real! It’s almost 20 degrees cooler at the top, so bring a jacket when walking up from the parking lot to the top.

The road to the top stays open from April through November. It’s more than just a tourist spot; it’s like stepping into another world in the heart of the Smokies. From the moment the sun rises, through the sunset, and into the star-filled night, every step you take up there is full of awe and wonder.
